Strain Development
Superior non-GMO-based strains have been selected in order to produce bioactive compounds used as food ingredients, and they are being mass-produced under the most efficient fermentation conditions.In addition, GF Fermentech has the strain development technology that uses synthetic biology and evolutionary engineering techniques to produce pharmaceutical materials so that targeted bioactive compounds can be produced efficiently.
Biotransformation
Although enzymes are more friendly to the human body than chemical catalysts, and have little side reactions, they are very expensive in general. GF Fermentech has the enzyme immobilization technology that secures enzymes to a carrier so that they can be reused efficiently and economically.Biotransformation may require more than one enzyme and a cofactor necessary for a reaction. GF Fermentech has the technology to produce targeted bioactive compounds in an efficient way by designing microbes that hold these enzymes and cofactors in living cell membranes.
Extraction, purification
Materials manufactured through fermentation and biotransformation processes, as well as natural materials, are mixed with many substances other than active ingredients. So technologies to separate and purify them are particularly important for high value products. These technologies include the supercritical CO2 extraction technology that can extract bioactive compounds in a more human body-friendly and efficient manner, the fractionation technology that significantly increases the concentration of certain substances, the crystallization technology that separates compounds with high purity from many impurities by allowing crystals of bioactive compounds to be produced under specific conditions, and the chromatography technology that uses absorbents and solvents with specific affinity to achieve targeted materials’ purity of up to 95-99%.
Emulsification and micro-encapsulation
Some of useful active compounds are easily broken down due to their lack of stability when exposed to light or in contact with certain materials. In addition, fat-soluble active substances have limitations in applying to water-soluble-based products such as beverages. It is the micro-encapsulation technology that makes it possible to overcome these hurdles. GF Fermentech has a technology that active substances can be applied reliably to water-soluble solutions while protecting them by coating active ingredients with microcapsules through emulsification that utilizes the optimal emulsifier and coating agent.
